Understand to act
Preventive Dialogue: think first, explain second.
Preventive Dialogue® is Care & Fly’s name for its conversational learning approach. It starts with a workplace situation and invites people to observe, reason and choose before offering an explanation. Its aim is to help people understand prevention issues and identify appropriate possible actions.

A three-stage learning sequence
The conversation makes reasoning explicit. It does not require disclosing a personal experience or seek to assign blame to an individual.
Observe: discover a workplace situation and distinguish facts from initial interpretations.
Reason: examine the hypotheses and mechanisms at play, then put them into perspective with Bernadette’s explanation.
Choose: identify a possible action suited to the situation and the people to involve.
A learning example
Fictional example: a team receives urgent requests from several people without shared priorities. Before advising everyone to manage their time better, a question invites them to describe what is happening: which requests, deadlines and room for manoeuvre?
An explanation can then distinguish individual difficulties from organisational decisions. One possible next step is to prepare a collective discussion about priorities and resources. This example illustrates the approach; it is neither a customer case nor a guaranteed product feature.
References, without overstating effectiveness
Karpicke and Blunt (2011) found benefits from retrieval practice in an experiment involving learning scientific texts. This is a general educational reference, not validation of Bernadette, conversational AI or an effect on psychosocial risks.
Anact describes collective spaces for discussing work with a framework and follow-up on proposals. An individual learning sequence may prepare reflection; it is not equivalent to such a discussion space.

Frequently asked questions
What is Preventive Dialogue®?
Preventive Dialogue® is the conversational learning method developed by Care & Fly to raise awareness of psychosocial risks.
Its principle: think first, explain second. Starting from a concrete workplace situation, Bernadette invites the learner to observe, reason and choose, then provides an explanation to help them understand the mechanisms at play.
The aim is to build useful reference points for describing a situation, discussing it and identifying possible actions. This awareness-raising complements collective prevention approaches focused on work and its organisation.
How was Preventive Dialogue® developed?
Care & Fly developed Preventive Dialogue® by bringing together knowledge about psychosocial risks, French and European prevention principles, and research on learning.
These contributions were translated into concrete educational choices: start from actual work, ask a question before providing an explanation, actively involve the learner and revisit key ideas throughout the learning pathway.
The Care & Fly Playbook formalises this shared design framework. It combines scientific rigour, learning progression and the quality of the conversation, with a constant focus: develop people’s capacity to act without making them responsible for the risks to which they are exposed.
What are the scientific sources behind Preventive Dialogue®?
Preventive Dialogue® draws on two complementary sets of references:
- For prevention content: publications by INRS on psychosocial risks, Anact on quality of working life and working conditions and EU-OSHA on psychosocial risks at work.
- For learning design: research on active engagement, retrieval practice and spaced learning, including work presented by Stanislas Dehaene at the Collège de France and the study by Karpicke and Blunt on retrieval practice.
These references inform the content and learning principles. Presenting them through a conversation guided by Bernadette is Care & Fly’s own educational choice. Each module specifies the sources for the knowledge it covers.
